前两个月，美国总统特朗普隆重宣布全球最大的电子产品代工厂富士康将投资100亿美刀在美国建厂。众所周知，富士康从不制造自己品牌的产品，专心致志只做代加工，苹果，戴尔，惠普，联想，索尼，摩托罗拉等等许多产品都是由富士康代工的，堪称全球代工之王。 然而很多人并不知道的是，其实在美国早就有这样一家公司，堪称是威士忌界的富士康！很多你喝过的威士忌，其实都是由它来代工的。
这家神秘的公司叫MGP（全称是中西部谷物加工公司Midwest Grain Products）在美国印第安纳州的劳伦斯堡（Lawrenceburg），MGP的经营范围非常广泛，生产食品、酒精（饮料和燃料）和生物塑料。至关重要的是，MGP还为许多品牌代工了数量极其庞大的威士忌，你或许曾经无意中都喝过这些威士忌。
位于印第安纳的这间工厂曾经属于施格兰公司，几十年来一直在换手，直到被MGP收购之后才开始走上了蓬勃发展之路。从鸟瞰图来看，MGP的工厂规模非常庞大，因为除了威士忌之外，这里还会生产伏特加和金酒（甚至还有溶剂和防腐剂，杀菌剂所使用的“食品级工业酒精”）。
不可否认的是，MGP生产威士忌的过程还是非常精细的，无论是发酵，蒸馏还是陈年都由非常专业的工作人员负责，并且可以根据品牌的要求进行某种程度的定制化生产。

每一批次的威士忌由女性进行闻香品鉴 除此之外，MGP甚至还拥有一位从业超过30多年的首席酿酒大师Greg Metze（2016年已经退休）。Greg在退休之后接受媒体采访时表示：“是的，你们在市面上喝到的大部分黑麦威士忌其实都是我酿的！”

某些酒厂和品牌会大方地承认自己的威士忌是MGP代工的，但并不是所有。 比如这瓶Templeton 黑麦威士忌
这瓶威士忌的背标上印着一个美丽的故事，是关于Templeton的，诸如酒厂起源于1920年美国禁酒令时期的爱荷华州，非法酿造，并且深受当时的黑帮教父Al Capone青睐blah blah blah……于是很多人以为Templeton 黑麦威士忌是在爱荷华州生产的，而且早在禁酒令之前，然而这只是个故事而已！ MGP拥有一份非常经典的黑麦威士忌的谷物配方Mashbill：95%的黑麦和5%的大麦。

由于近年来的美国威士忌（无论是波本还是黑麦）在全球范围内受到热捧，因此无论是品牌还是酒厂，都希望能够从中获益。然而在增加销售的同时，自己花钱扩建或是建造新酒厂明显是一件不太划得来的事情，并且自己生产品质优良稳定的威士忌也并非易事，这就是为什么选择MGP代工的原因。而消费者也愿意看到市场上拥有足够多的品牌进行选择，即便他们之中很少有人会知道其实这些威士忌都来自于同一间工厂。 而MGP也在不断地与时俱进，开发新的配方以满足越来越多的代工需求，目前已经拥有十多个配方供客户选择。

值得注意的是其中Smooth Ambler已经被国际酒业巨头保乐力加所收购。所以在很多美国威士忌品牌眼中，威士忌好不好其实并不重要，品牌知名度打造得好才是王道。
而去年年底，一直致力于代工的MGP也未雨绸缪地收购了一个波本品牌George Remus，以防止未来其他美国威士忌酒厂抢夺威士忌的代工市场，订单下降时自己还有品牌可以卖。
在已经退休的Greg Metze看来，MGP的代工模式并无任何不妥，“酿造威士忌是一件非常依赖经验和科学的工作，对于大部分手工蒸馏厂来说他们完全无法胜任这项工作。规模化生产并不会意味着威士忌的品质会有所下降。相反，那些小规模作坊式的生产其实很难保证质量。太多手工蒸馏厂鼓捣出来的酒根本没法喝。”
Greg Metze的作风和MGP一样，低调务实，退休之后公司还为他打造了一个威士忌品牌：Metze’s Select。
而作为威士忌界的富士康，MGP走的是一条闷声大发财的路线：做代工，没有自己品牌，who cares！
自2013年以来，MGP的股价已经翻了整整十倍，所有投资人都乐欢天。
这间庞大的工厂依然还在不断扩张和升级生产设备，没有人清楚它的最终目标是什么。但有一点毋庸置疑，那些由MGP代工的波本和黑麦威士忌在市场上依然受到许多人的钟爱。
即便他们中大部分人并不清楚，自己的杯中物并非来自于肯塔基，而是印第安纳。
