Barton 1792酒厂由Ben Mattingly于1879年在Bardstown建立，邻近天然水源Morton’s Spring附近，至今仍是肯塔基州最古老的酒厂。
Mattingly之后将公司卖给了一名员工Tom Moore，后者将其改名为Morton Spring酒厂。在1881年将经营权出售给一组外部投资者后，不安分的Moore在隔壁的地段开了一个全新的竞争酒厂，经营非常成功，之后重新购回了Morton Spring酒厂，并且合并了两个酒厂，将酒厂改名为The Thomas Moore Distillery，直到禁酒令实施前仍然是一个有利可图的实体。当禁酒令解除时，Moore已是一位老人，所以他希望推动这个品牌的发展。之后该物业被交易了几次， 在所有权变化的情况下，“The Barton酒厂”的名字首次出现。

然而，未来的投资者会容易混淆地回归Tom Moore酒厂的称号以及推出在这个时代流行的1792装瓶。当Sazerac最终在2009年收购酒厂时，决定利用这一品牌名称，而不是历史上其他的，并重新命名为Barton 1792酒厂。
Barton 1792酒厂目前是一个巨大的工厂，位于波本威士忌王国的中心，占地196英亩，拥有包括令人印象深刻的蒸馏车间；29个大型熟成仓库，其容量约为2,000,000桶威士忌；还有22栋其他建筑。
酒厂的装瓶实际上被称为'Ridgewood Reserve 1792'，但是与Brown-Forman公司古老的“Woodford Reserve”品牌相似，后来不得不放弃了。之后也曾用过年龄声明（陈年8年），但在2013年12月被取消了。
